Ars Nova

Bengt Carlsson and Sven

Ars Nova (Latin for “New Art”) was a progressive rock group active roughly between 1973 and 1976. Sven V. Bertilsson wrote the lion’s share of the music and lyrics. A hallmark of their performances was the fusion of concert and art exhibition, with Hatte Bärtilsson’s paintings forming an integral part of the experience. The group consisted of Bengt Carlsson (bass), Åke Carlsson (drums), Morgan Fagerman (organ), Sven V. Bertilsson (guitar and vocals), and Gert‑Inge Gustavsson (guitar), who later founded the well‑known rock group Steelwings after Ars Nova split up.
